Holistic, innovative approaches to protect the environment
“Drop a pebble in the water: just a splash, and it is gone;
But there’s half-a-hundred ripples circling on and on and on,
Spreading, spreading from the center, flowing on out to the sea.
And there is no way of telling where the end is going to be.”
James W. Foley
Analyze
We firmly believe the first step of problem solving is understanding all aspects involved, including but not limited to technical, cultural, climatic, legal, socio-economical and geo-political issues. In order to gain this understanding, we include as many stakeholders as possible.
Design
All our designs take into consideration the aspects studied during the analysis phase. In addition, we involve the same stakeholders to obtain acceptance and buy-in.
implement
We make every attempt to source locally or regionally available instruments and materials to keep the costs down, reduce carbon-footprint from transportation, and help stimulate the local economy.
Capacity Building
We assist with training in set-up, operation, maintenance, contingency planning and response to emergencies and will always available for answers. However, our ultimate goal is knowledge transfer so each client will become self-sustainable as well as serve as a blue-print for others.
Our PHilosophy
We believe the planet we inhabit is becoming smaller and smaller, figuratively speaking, because of exploding population, advances in information flow and transportation, and global commerce. A small event in an obscure part of the world can have wide rippling effects. According to a United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) study, 70% of the mercury deposit in the United States comes from global sources. At the same time, in 2021, USD$1.23 billion worth of gold from Colombia were imported by the United States. A significant percentage of gold produced in Colombia comes from informal or illegal mines which often use mercury, and may have ties to cartels or armed groups. This is just one of the many examples that “not in our backyard” approach and moving “dirty industries” off-shore does not protect us from harmful chemicals and pollutants.
While we hold no illusion that we can change the world, we take on small projects with meaningful impacts and dedicate our full attention to help improve the health and well-being of one community or preserve one more tree in the rainforest.
